Dear Ravi:

I just got a call from Sharon Bullock from MAP who asks if the entire over‑sized shipment for our Ladakh trip can be pallet‑shipped in shrink wrap by truck.  This would be ideal if it could be sent direct to IAD and loaded as accompanying cargo for each of us traveling from IAD

If it comes to my home, I cannot handle it since I do not have a forklift, and it would have to be dismantled for several trips to pack it to IAD.  Someone there would have to receive it, since it cannot be left "unsecured"

If it is to be shipped to IAD, it would have to be "Just‑in‑Time" so as to avoid the acceptance and storage problems. A large quantity of medicines by donation and purchase can get us started on what may be needed for the separate missions in Ladakh, Lingshed, Spit and Nepal, but there will also be a handling and warehouse issue in India and onward.  The bill of lading, contents and the clearances of donated medicines, not for sale and only distributed under the supervision of a licensed physician papers are included, as always, for customs

If I am freed up of a pallet going as cargo, I will still be packing more than my personal baggage, since I have all the stuff I have been boxing from the Anne Arundel Medical Center‑‑with the kinds of equipment, disposables, and even stuffed toy dolls for the patient kids, that will still make for excess baggage.

I had talked with Ziba Vali‑Coleman, IAD Station Supervisor for Lufthansa at Dulles, who was very generous in avoiding my overweight charges last time, but I do not know how they can arrange the handling of cargo‑sized pallets.  She is at 703/572‑6004 or Fax 703/572‑6005, (ziba.valicoleman@dlh.de) and one of us should talk with her about clearance before we attempt to make a "just‑in‑time" delivery of a MAP pallet to IAD and who it is that can receive it and check it in as baggage for all of us who are flying out of IAD.

Sharon Bullock at MAP also needs a written authorization to ship and the date time and place of delivery for who will be receiving it at sbullock@MAP.org

Could we arrange a conference call or joint email to coordinate the handling of the pallet of MAP donated medicines and the additional purchased medical supplies for our Ladakh Medical Mission before the takeoff on July 17?

Thanks!

GWG

Dr. Glenn,

I just spoke with Sharon and Lisa. It turns out that the custom order that we went over last time is weighing over 300LBS and thats where the pallet was coming in. We will have to drop the liquid medicines which have made it so heavy. I  am asking them to drop out the following from our custom order.
1) Rynatuss Pediatric suspension each bottle is 237 ml and we had 100 of those
2) pseudoephedrine 118ml cold and allergy formula. we had 100
3) ciprofloxacin opthalmic solution 2.5 ml cutting it down to 50 from 300 bottles.
4) Childrens vitamin cutiing back to 50. we had 200
5) Children's Shampoo and conditioner (dropping it all together)
6) Mabendazole each bottle has a 1000 tabs (cutting back to one)
7) Amoxicillan from 4 down to 2 (each has 500 caps)
8) Famotidine from 4 down to two (each has 775 tab)
9) Acittaminophen from 100 down to 30. (each has 80 caps 500mg each)
10) Stethoscope from 5 down to 3.

I hope this will bring it weigh down in weight and size. I am looking at the duffles now
