Dear doctor:
We are sending you a report that is a successful case of acupuncture treating
paraplegia and the patient is receiving obvious effect. We hope all paraplegia
patient will receive the same result. Hessa is a 52 year‑old female
who had a traumatic spinal injury caused by vehicle accident 2 years ago. She
had had fecal and urinary incontinence, under L4 sensory test showed absence
of thermal threshold in the lower back and legs, the legs and feet had not any
autonomic activities. Hessa had received the acupuncture treatment since March
2, 2000. Her treatment plan was 2‑4 sessions a week, 20 sessions is one
course, with electroacupuncture and TDP lamp.
After acupuncture treatment, Hessa's conditions gradually were getting better.
Her sensation of skin was from no any conscious to obscure in lower back and
upper thighs. Her both quadriceps muscle of thighs can contract automatically
and draw curve of the knees. She also can kick both shanks 3 inch high when
she sits on edge of a bed. Some times she can feel full feeling in the bladder
and controls urination in the bathroom. She is able to walk after acupuncture
treatment for 6 months later.
On physical examination, draw out Babinski's Sign (negative, from no response,
weak to strong). The edema on both ankles was disappeared and the leg temperature
returned to normal.
Sincerely,
Wanzhu Hou, L.Ac., CM
