THE LINGSHED TREK –02 IN KASHMIR

  1. AUG-B-1  Index to the Aug-B-series: The Lingshed Trek-02
  2. Setting out on the Lingshed Trek: road trip to takeoff point on foot
  3. Dramatis personae of the Lingshed team members, arriving in Leh for acclimatization before the trek
  4. Launch the long Lingshed Trek from the Fangila roadhead into the Zanskar Valley wilderness in hiking through five passes, all over 15,000 feet, with the third day’s highest pass well over 17,000 feet, accompanying Kiang (Tibetan ass) and scrawny pony packstock with our medical kits and camping gear searching out small villages of less than a hundred inhabitants, for our inaugural medical mission on trek toward Lingshed 2002
  5. The Lingshed-02 trek through the remote arid mountain villages of roadless Zanskar, through series of high dry passes, and with rain, hail, and arduous climbs amid spectacular scenery, some saw from horseback, and I hiked every intrepid meter of the long and dusty way
  6. Leaving Leh: farewell dinner at the Tibetan Kitchen, farewells and scramble through the excessive security of irrational Leh airport electronics confiscation, fly Jet Air to Delhi, and arrive at Ajanta for the interval in Delhi: “It’s not the heat, it’s the humanity!”  before the long return around the world
  7. And they that are last shall be first—class, that is; homeward bound on a different flight and upgraded at that!
  8. Re-entry from long absence abroad following ‘ladakh-02” and “Lingshed-02” arriving in time for the Annapolis ten-miler race
