JAN-A-1

  1. Index to Jan-A-series from New Year’s through Cumberland Island/Gainesville trip
  2. The long, long drive on New Year’s Eve from Moorehead City to Atlanta to join with old friends in celebration of  the coming of 2002 with champagne in a party crawl through Marietta, New Year’s Day immersed in football and Gibbs families, and a surprise Southern Snowfall.
  3. Turning further south toward Fernandino Beach Florida and Cumberland Island for the rendezvous and hog hunt: I learn of a real disaster which derails Gene Moore, a potential problem for Reg, and the Hampton Inn directs us to Huddle House where a pending problem begins for me.
  4. Nancy’s Fancy, Cumberland Island tour for the first-time and return visitors and we all prepare for the hunt—with one exception, who is focused exclusively on his GI tract for reasons of a preemptory problem.
  5. My “stay at home” day at Nancy’s Fancy, sending the team out in the pre-dawn under huntmeister-protem Schaefer, as I huddle with the residual of the Huddle House legacy:  I rouse for two outdoor forays that total only seven minutes, during which four shots are fired, and four hogs are brained—on my “off day” .
  6. Packing out of Cumberland, and the drive down to Gainesville, returning up to visit with Andrew William and Kacie Elizabeth, for a “stay-at-home day” with Donald and the kids in Florida.
  7. The drive back from Gainesville to Atlanta for a surprise celebration of a coming birthday, before getting back in the faithful Bronco to complete another long drive to Derwood:  Two long land-based solo trips over holidays—one thousand miles north into the snow country of upper New York state, and three thousand miles south round trip to the Outer Banks, NC, Atlanta New Years’, Cumberland Island Hog Hunt, Gainesville Grandkids, Atlanta birthday party, and back home to Derwood, neither Bronco nor I showing our age and wear.
