Subject:     It was good to make connection with my "roots!"

It is a pleasure to be asked to return to the AST's annual convention‑‑especially to deliver the keynote address!

I appreciate the call, so that I know I am making connections as I am manipulating my fall schedule!   I am steering around the commitment I have at the Halsted Surgical Society which will be meeting in High Hampton NC from Sept 11‑‑14. and have told them I would like to be moved on the program to free up my return to DC on Saturday Sept 14 to be with you by noon.

I had promised a couple of references, with respect to my interest in the Developing World and medical and surgical services that can contribute to the relief of suffering and the better understanding among peoples everywhere.  I have just returned from a Himalayan medical mission in the Spiti Valley and am packing up the medical and surgical supplies for a return to Ladakh this week, from which I will be trekking over the Himalayan massif to Lingshed in the roadless Tibetan Plateau.  I am out of reach of most high (and low!) tech communication devices while there, so I thought I would add a few items that might be helpful now for later reference.

The web site of my Home page may be helpful at http://home.gwu.edu/~gwg

I have several books that may be useful:

"Geelhoed, GW, Out of Assa: Heart of the Congo, Three Hawks Publishing, Alexandria, VA  703/823‑9833

Geelhoed, GW, Ed  Surgery and Healing in the Developing World

Landes BioScience, Georgetown, TX 512/863‑7762

Geelhoed, GW, Ed. Surgical Tropical Diseases. (Problems in General Surgery) Lippincott, Williams and Wilkins, Philadelphia, 2002

I had promised a number of attachments and a brief CV, which I will also try to do with this email transmission; I hope it is helpful!

I look forward to joining with you in your September convention!

Cheers!
