Glenn,

We're getting ready to pitch the story to Discovery and need to know a few more things about you in order to flesh it out.  How many children and grand children do you have?  You can email or call me on my cell.

thanks,

I have two sons, three grandsons and a granddaughter:

Donald William Geelhoed, a detective in Gainesville, Florida, who has

Son Andrew William Geelhoed age 5 years,

Daughter Kacie Elizabeth Geelhoed, age 2 years

Michael Alan Geelhoed, a physical therapist instructor/manager in San Antonio TX, who has the twins:

Devin Michael Geelhoed, age one year

Jordan Lee Geelhoed, age one year

The other data you can derive from my home page, http://home.gwu.edu/~gwg

The story of the most recent run is appended in Oct‑B‑6 for the 27th running of the Marine Corps Marathon, with some unusual folk I may have helped along the way.

The photographic story of Lingshed and the other major treks this year can be picked up with the access to Photo Works On‑Line Journal which is appended, as well as the missions in Mindanao and Malawi and pictures from a few runs and adventures along the way.

I have worked with any and all organizatoins who are trying to get the "cargo moved" in humanitarian assistance and sustainable self‑help.  The one that I may have stirred into awakening recently was the keynote address at the first national convention of the Association of Surgical Technologists and Certified First Assistants. (attached in Oct‑A‑ 11)

I can tell you about many, many other organizations:   World Medical Missions, Samaritan's Purse, Global Health Organization, Society of International Missions, African Inland Mission, Christian Medical Society,  Medical Ministries International, Volunteer Services Overseas, Medical Assistance Programs, Himalayan Health Exchange, Summer Institute in Linguistics, International Health Medical Education Consortium, American College of Surgeons, George Washington University International Medicine,  and others TNTC.

I have worked with (and without) a myriad of NGO voluntary agencies, and appreciate almost all of them.  I am a card‑carrying member of none of them that require exclusivity, since I want to be as flexible as possible in supporting the medical education and service components of most of them.

I am really ready to hand‑pick the dream team for Lingshed.  I have most of them identified now, and will confirm them with the "stories" that go into the selection of each.

Cheers!

GWG

Glenn,

Is there an organization that you belong to that supports this medical mission work?  I remember you saying something last year about speaking at a conference and sharing your stories about recent medical missions.  If so what organization is it and do they have regular meetings?  We'd like to pitch this as a whole series of shows devoted to doctors who work in extreme conditions, donating time and materials.  I know of several organizations like "Flying Doctors" and "Doctors Without Borders" can you offer up anymore names and contacts within this realm?

If this goes the Lingshed trip would be the pilot.  BTW how did the marathon and mtn climb go?  We'll have to get you doing some training before we leave on the trek and such opportunities are especially good.
