AND, NOW, THE “SKY IS THE LIMIT”,

AS I PLOT OUT THE OTHER LONG REMOTE TREKS

I HAVE MADE FOR GIS MAPPING OF THE GPS DATA

I HAVE GATHERED IN

ASIA, AFRICA, SOUTH AMERICA, ALASKA, ANTARCTICA,

AND MOUNTAIN TREKS USA—ROCKIES, SIERRAS, CUMBERLAND

On the subject of "not holding my breath,"  I not only sent you immediately the log of the Lingshed Trek, but also started thinking of the other major treks I had patterned with my GPS numbers of Altitude, Latitude, and Longitude (both on the Magellan and on the Garmin)

I did an extensive Trek (twice, in 1999 and 2002) on the Everest Route in Nepal.

I trekked the entire Inca Trail in Peru

I hiked the John Muir Trail in the Eastern Sierra Nevada.

Then I thought of something far more useful:

The Capital Peak landmarks of the White River National Forest outside Vail where we go Elk Hunting in the Rockies every year.

Cumberland Island Wilderness National park where we go hog hunting each January‑‑‑and I just put in Gene Curletti's name for this Jan 6‑‑8.

If I could get a GIS data base for these places over which I have crawled with such first degreee intimacy, it would be wonderful!

So, forgive me for not holding my breath--I immediately sent you a letter with all these data points on my careful "mapping" of thes exotic wilderness destinations.  Now, you have got me started in seeing the GIS possibilities of many, if not most‑‑of my remote destinations--eg, Assa, Congo, for instance, all GPS data points are available for that location in the back of the book you have‑‑"Out of Assa: Heart of the Congo."

Of course, there is also the Antarctic, Mindanao, Philippines, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Alaska, Kazakstan, Kamchatka‑‑etc!  Almost every exotic location I have been in the last six years since I have been packing GPS data gathering devices!

Cheers!

i just logged in the first four points on one of your lists...have a tough time reading your writing..if this comes close at all, i will see about getting Digital Elevation map as suggested by the GIS guru.
