Subject:     RE: What would be the dates of a potential Haiti Trip?

OK‑‑I will hold both dates Apr 23 and June 8‑‑14 until I can emerge to figure out what is going on now that the China trip is "postponed" to use their terms, or "canceled" using mine.  Nature abhors a vacuum, and I will have a swirl of other items that will try to settle into that time slot if I do not notify them that I am out.

Could you tell me more about Project Medishare, and what it is that we would be doing and where in Haiti?

I will be gone this next week giving multiple "Global Health Day" Keynotes in University of Florida and Long Island, New York before coming back the evening of the Boston marathon.

I may not be here during the finalization of such items as airline advanced fare reservations, so I would need to have these known before I take off for Malawi, where three of my students are already, and I will be joining them on April 25 with three more.

Might some of the Haiti sites we visit be interested in the stock of medicines, journals or books that I accumulate for such travel? A bunch of these could be carried as one bag each for each of the travelers to be checked in as luggage, as long as a licensed physician were with them‑‑and I can supply a letter to that effect for each of you. I am rather heavy in surgical supplies, since that is what I typically do in such missions.

Let me know soon, since I will be off base for the next ten days beginning Friday AM and then in Africa right after the presumptive rendezvous on my return for the April 23 event.

Cheers!

Hi Dr. Geelhoed,

SARS is sure causing a lot of problems for people isn't it? However, this may

be good news for me if it means you can come to Haiti with us.  Ellen, the

director of Project Medishare, literally just emailed me the dates.  She says

it will be June 8/9 ‑ June 14.  Not very long, but they say we can get a lot

done nonetheless.  Here's the count: three GW students (myself included), and

possibly you, meeting up with the Miami group in either Thumonde or Port au

Prince. Apparently there will be some media attention as well.

I will talk to Bryan about flights and other logistics, I believe we are

"taken care of" once we arrive in Haiti as fars as shelter/food/etc...but will

confirm. However, we will have to cover cost of airfare individually.

Also, Julie and I are trying to get a room April 23rd from noon ‑ 1:00 to

schedule a lunchtime international health panel seminar.  From the itineraries

it appears you are available.  Would this be good for you?

Hope all is well,

Danielle
