Trying to fly to a Visiting Professorship
in UF, Gainesville, through the security hassles
of the “heightened security” alert warnings for
this pre-war and post Ramadan period, with the unconfirmed
hope of seeing Donald.
The long winter weekend in snowy Derwood
between Valentine’s Day and President’s Day (George
Washington’s Birthday) with a return to running
against all odds.
A holiday weekend
snowstorm of historic proportions has me cooped
up in spectacular Derwood drifts; I venture out
to shovel out and to try snowshoeing as
I do domestic chores and past due chronicling.
I’m still homebound!
I have tried shoveling out again and another round
of snowshoeing, while doing minimal household
chores.
The announcement of the adventure trek
into Lingshed presentation at REI, with a good
deal of persistence over the hardships of a hostile
environment demonstrated just by showing up!
The full day
out of the house as I wade through the snowdrifts
with Jack and take crowded Metro in to his NSF
meeting, and my all-day catch-up at GW, with
the evening program at REI, talking about Lingshed
to a group of wannabes; then a triumphant follow-up
to the enigma of the design-flawed snowshoe bindings:
I snowshoe down the driveway to the mailbox, then
through my Derwood woods through the deep drifts
and around the streams!
Further integration
of the Malawi travel plans and coordination of
the students and advisors in arrivals and departures.
Holed up again
in Derwood Hermitage as rain replaces snow in
a bleak weekend of snowmelt and continuing to
dig out of the homestead.
Breakthroughs
and shut-ins: another wintry period of holed-up
home-bound work with some
special news of progress from an awaited call,
while awaiting a visitor.
