Dear Huda,
It has been my pleasure, on
behalf of Medishare, to
welcome you and the GW group
to Thomonde and Marmont.
I have been positively
impressed with the diversity of
the group and the dedication
of many. Bringing medical
and public health students
together in one trip was a
first for Medishare. Ellen and I are looking forward
to GW's continued commitment
to bring access to health
care to the people of the
Central Plateau and of
Marmont in particular.
GW was asked by the Haitian
Ministry of Health to
concentrate its effort in
Marmont during a meeting
with Dr Geelhoed last year.
As you can see when you
visited the area, health
infrastructures in Marmont
are sorely deficient. A partnership GW/Medishare
similar to the one we enjoy
with Partners in Health
and Paul Farmer in Thomonde
should be envisioned.
These are the major points
that I have identified from
a clinical view:
A) PROVIDE VENUES FOR
CLINICAL AND FIELD EXPERIENCE
FOR MPH AND MEDICAL
STUDENTS/FELLOWS:
This area will need to be
developed mostly by GW as
far as curriculum and
concentration. The students
will have the opportunity of
an enriching and valuable
experience in rural Haiti.
We offer our full
collaboration.
B)REINFORCE THE COMMUNITY
HEALTH SYSTEM IN MARMONT:
1‑ Rehabilitation of
the health center. Medishare has
already started and hopes to
complete the process.
2‑ Medical equipments
and supplies for Marmont Clinic.
The Haitian Ministry of
Health will provide "some"
materials.
3‑ Human Resources for health services in
Marmont.
4‑ Operating Expenses for health services in
Marmont.
5‑ Sustainability
Ellen is looking forward to
starting the discussions
with you and can better
address these and other
issues. As you rightly said,
this collaboration could
be a win‑win for all.
Please share your thoughts on
these and other points of
interest with us.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Marie
