THE START OF THE NEW YEAR 2004

  1. JAN-A-1  Index to the JAN-A-Series of 2004
  2. The New Year begins with a midnight whimper, and a holiday started with a run with Joe, and then a visit with Dale Kramer and family to prepare us for a rare event not enjoyed for a decade in the Chesapeake flyway—a goosehunt!
  3. A Sage stuffed with Goose, (in contrast to the vice versa) contemplates the start-up of a New Year, arbitrarily named 2004.
  4. The game plan for arrivals and contacts for the Cumberland hunt.
  5. Rapid progress in a cloud of drywall dust as Derwood is getting its interior walls, ceilings and taped and mudded corners—and I am negotiating delivery of major appliances, exterior lighting and a fancy front door, as we are packing up for Cumberland takeoff.
  6. Cumberland Island-’04: the unique and hauntingly beautiful island wilderness of Cumberland, and our specially privileged position in it, to view it, experience it, and enjoy it, while wilderness and retained rights leases still allow us to drive and hike it, appreciate the “Nancy’s Fancy” hospitality, and even hog hunt!
  7. My birthday, celebrated as a National Holiday--take the day off on me!  Or, was it Robert E. Lee?
