PLANS FOR AN AFRICAN SURGICAL EXPEDITION

  1. Index to Jan-B-series for the second half of the month as winter arrives in Derwood and plans are made for an African excursion.
  2. The correspondence that sets up a fullAfrican surgical expedition to Somaliland and to Ethiopia, as I respond to the generous and kind words of one Croskery, while waiting to hear from another.
  3. THE CURRENT STATUS OF SOMALILAND IN THE US PRESS.
  4.     The clearance with Somaliland here and there, with the “President” officially welcoming us, and the “Ambassador” receiving us in his office, and the “Foreign Minister” welcoming us to her hospital.
  5. A positive note regarding Ethiopia, and a somber note regarding Somaliland.
  6. Arrangements made with Somaliland Ambassador and Ethiopian Gonder Medical College connections for the next week's departure for the Horn Of Africa.
  7. Tom Griffioen's pictures and stories from his Cumberland Island experience.
  8. My long-distance running buddy Ed and I exchange tales of heroic endurance.
  9. The unpleasant surprises of settling accounts on Derwood tree damage,  including those of an unfriendly neighbor, and packing up with interests of another neighbor for the Horn of Africa, with much of my kit irretrievably stored in Derwood; then an early rally with the Aukward family for the McDonald breakfast run.
  10. The arrangements made for a Visiting Professorship in Gondor Medical College.
