MAY-B-9
RESPONSES FROM MY GRADUATED MEDICAL STUDENTS, NOW COLLEAGUES, IN GENEROUS
APPRECIATION
May 19, 2004
Kevin, my man, you are an
incurable Mensch!
If no other proof were
needed as to how much this award is deserved, you have written the epilogue to
our commencement celebration in generosity!
I very much appreciate the
gift, the spirit of its donation, and thank you on behalf of the kids in the
Horn of Africa we have seen together who will be the direct beneficiaries of
it. I
can assure you that I will see that your wishes for their benefit are
carried out with a multiplier attached in person.
I am meeting with Jeff Krilla and Saad Noor and continuing the work on the next Mission to the
Horn of Africa, now enriched by your continuing care for these people.
You can be sure your names
will be remembered by each of the at least four patients and their families,
and each will have life-long "memorial monuments" inscribed upon
their smiling faces.
You are one of the best
reasons I had got out of bed early each of those long days, and if only I could
write your residency application letter of reference now, I might even say
something positive about you!
Thanks, and Cheers for some
real Quality Time with your proud father in the land of the fathers.
Sincerely,
GWG

dr. glenn,
dont know if you saw it on the program, but i won the
7th annual leonard tow HUMANISM IN MEDICINE AWARD
funded by the arnold p. gold foundation. it was an
especially great honor since
it was voted on by my
fellow classmates at gwu.
anyway, there was a $1,000
cash award with the prize
and i
want to give this to your future operation smile
mission in somaliland/ethiopia.
i would like you to use the money to fund patients or
families of patients who
need surgical care but have
have no means to get it. i trust your judgement on
this and i
think you know of whom i speak.
my hope is that you can give
$250 to 4 patients, each
in the name of myself and my
fellow missionaries:
juan reyes, jay maguire, and amy hayes.
let me know when you know
the dates of the trip, and i
will send you the check.
best,
kevin
p.s. did you see that jay
won the award for best
student in emergency
medicine!
Dr. glenn:
Thanks for everything dr. glenn.
i will never forget
the opportunities you have afforded me and what a
generous teacher you have been to me.
so glad you got to meet the rest of my family.
your student,
dr. kevin bergman

the edge that day and you made it all the more
special. i
admire what you do,
i respect what you
showed/taught me, but above all knowing your dedication, i
have appreciated the moments and times you gave us. as soon as i have
time
i'll look up where on your next
trek i could join you, or make another of our
own. thanks again
for sunday and i'll keep
this e-mail where you can always

case in addition to the Ethiopia limb of
the excursion promised on both ends. I would be delighted to set up a final
