Presentation on July's GWU Medical
Mission to DR/Haiti Wed Sept 8 at noon
in Ross 117
OUR PROGRAM
FOR HAITI
GWU/PROJECT
MEDISHARE HELP
IN
COLLABORATION WITH PIH/CANGE
The room (the only one available to us at this time) will be overflowing, but it will be an enthusiastic and interested group, among whom we will recruit enlistees in our longer plans for sustainable partnerships with Haiti.
A.
Short Range plans:
1
Could we get together on Tuesday at a time and place that works best to organize
the parts each will play? The principle role for each participant will be a
moderated panel to answer the questions of the incoming "wannabes"
for the next time's excursion for which we will have a sign up sheet from which
selections will be made for March, '05
2
Consolidated Power Point presentation: the combined pics
are being added by Sara and Sonbol and can be edited
on Tuesday for the presentation component not to take more than half the time
allotted (25 minutes.) We will each have contributed to the picture stock.
3 I
will supply the photo albums and the completed reports (the latter can also be
accessed in the library along with the complete report of every GWU medical
mission I have done) for later reference by interested students.
B.
Intermediate plans:
1.
Fund-raiser at date time and place to be announced by Bryan in order to have
the pre-payment of meds to be purchased for '05 mission. All expenses (air
fare, Project MediShare, medical supplies) will
be pre-paid for the next mission before anyone boards, and will be the
last part of the screening of a balanced delegation.
2
The selection will be made from all applicants of med, MPH, seniors and entry
level clinicians, and there will be no more than twelve of med, six MPH and two
general helpers/translators selected and announced in February from
applications open until then. No one who has not come through the careful
"vetting" process will be able to "drop in" to the mission.
One criteria for selection is how much contribution each is able to put in on
mission planning, funding and effort delivering.
3
Pre-travel briefings will be held on status of mission, prepping and packing,
history and culture, language and a clinical exercise on conditions encountered
at three, monthly, intervals before med packs distribution and takeoff
C.
Longer Range Planning:
1
Identification of evaluation methods and site goals for the Marmont
district clinics and regions for measurable sustainable improvement
2
"Adoption" of given problems and programs by special interest
sub-groups for further progress in each of the clinical concerns for which
survey and foundation work has been done with a goal of local training and
partnering for self-help and sustainability
