Thanks!

I am ALWAYS "just coming back from" and "just heading out to" a score of such adventure excursions, and having just returned from DR/Haiti, I watched it transform the all virgin crew, as it once did me at the same age and stage‑‑and in the very same place, just four decades earlier! (see attached)

The excitement of such an experience in which you can make a discernible difference at an early stage in a lot of people's lives is contagious.  I will send a second email with the survey I did before and after this expedition, and will try to let you know when we can gather the returning students for a presentation to their peers on what they had learned.

I have prepared a packet of such background to which I will add the pdf when available, and the first to whom it should be made accessible is you!  If it does not take up too much of your holiday vacation long weekend, I will forward photo access as well.

I will also send you a Power Point made by my senior students who had all been with me along a number of prior excursions when recently we went to the Horn of Africa, which is beckoning me back now to continue the effort.  You can see the full story in the Home Page http://home.gwu.edu/~gwg and click on the "On‑Line Journal" in February to read about Somaliland and Ethiopia.

Or you can back up through scores of Himalayan missions or five years in operating in Mindanao Philippines, or any of the other medical missions around the world, profusely illustrated in the photojournalism which is my habit.  If you would like, I will also send you on‑line album access to many of the last missions pictures, which I will add in the next email as well.

I look forward to discussing it further with you and I will turn over a few of the student participants to interview!

Cheers!

          MEDICAL MISSION TO HISPANIOLA‑'04

It may have been worth the brief wait for the intact report! It has been a very rewarding trip for all concerned.

I enclose access to some parts of the photojournalism and attach the completed description of our medical mission to the DR/Haiti in the time of the island of Hispaniola's greatest natural disaster in history, superimposed on the poverty of the Western World's worst poverty.

                     JIMANI, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Attached you have access to the first roll from Jimani, Dominican Republic, among the flood and mudslide victims and refugees at the Haitian border, corresponding to the attached series Jul‑B‑1‑‑8, a narrative review of our Dominican experience.

                      CENTRAL PLATEAU, HAITI

The next roll of film is from Thumonde, Haiti, including our work in Marmonte District, visits to Cange and Port au Prince and return to Derwood, corresponding to the Jul‑C‑10 series of narrative description and summary of our work in Haiti.

Thanks for your concern and participation!
