Thank you!  Yes, I heard from my sisters and they had forwarded to me some of the details.  He is the first of my cousins in the generation and the first also to have died‑‑so that leads me to somber thoughts‑‑despite having just done a significant marathon for me (see Oct‑C‑8)

I had been in New Orleans for the first several weeks after Katrina, and can send you stories and pictures of that event.  There is also a new book you might be interested in downloading "Surgery and Healing in the Developing World (see 05‑Mar‑B‑5)

I am busy putting together the details of a surgical mission to Mindanao for the second two weeks of January (see  (05‑Nov‑A‑3 and 06‑JAN‑A‑6) and then am doing an Inaugural medical mission to Rwanda (see 05‑NOV‑A‑8, 12 and NOV‑B‑3,)before the events of Nov‑B‑5, 6 for my successors in the Medical Mission Hall of Fame in Toledo on March 18, 2006.

I would love to come visit you (now that is a switch!) in South Africa and Namibia and be sure to go to the Etosha Pan and hike the Fish River Canyon.  Two of these were dreams of mine and I got cut short of these adventures, although I did take in Windhoek and the Great Namib.  My Greater Kudu came from there!  I was also salivating as you were up on Hurricane Ridge, sine I had trekked along the Rain Forest River to Olympus and enjoyed that Peninsula.

It is time for a rendezvous and a swap of some pictures of this year!  I had just sorted through Mindanao, the Sudan, Azerbaijan and Eritrea and came across the photo of your Grandparents taken in April in Grand Rapids when I went there for the funeral of my older sister's oldest son David.  Your grandfolks were looking good then!

Let's do a serious catch up in Washington or in South Africa and tell your folks my phones and emails (also attached.)

My sympathies are extended to the whole family.

Dear Glenn,

You have probably heard from other family members

already, but I just wanted to let you know that

my grandfather, Stewart, passed away early Sunday

morning, November 27.  He had fractured his hip

and wrist in a fall two weeks ago.  He did okay

through the surgery, but I guess he got pneumonia

afterwards.  Anyway, it was at least a quick

death, and I think he would have suffered a lot

through his rehab.  I was able to fly out for the

funeral, which was on Tuesday, and I met your

sisters, Millie and Shirley, there.  It was nice

to put some faces to some names.  They said they

had seen lots of pictures of me already!

Well, I am sure that you are busy hopping around

the world as per usual, but my parents just moved

to Washington DC two weeks ago.  They have a

house in Falls Church, VA, which I guess is

inside the beltway so that my dad can commute

pretty easy to his job in Alexandria.  I know my

mom would have fun going to museums or something

with you if you are ever around and feel like

seeing some sights, so I am going to tell you

their address and phone number:

Our big international travels lately have

included a ferry ride to Victoria with my

brothers and their wives over Thanksgiving

weekend.  We had high tea at the Emperess Hotel,

and then on the way back here to Shelton, we went

up to Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park

where half of us cross country skiied and half of

us snowshoed on the nine inches of new snow they

had gotten the day before.  I am on call this

weekend but am hoping that next weekend we can go

up to Mt. Rainier for some more snowshoeing.

My job here is continuing to go well, and I am

happy the George W. sees fit to continue helping

me repay my medical school loans through the

National Health Service Corps.  I am hoping it

will be only 6‑7 more years until FREEDOM!

Jonathan and I will be spending a month in South

Africa during January and February (and also

visiting Namibia, which I am really looking

forward to).  I think while I am there that I am

going to start trying to make some contacts with

the Anglican Church and a few other HIV‑concerned

parties to start discussing future work

opportunities, even though it is a few years off.

Have you ever been to Kimberley?  We will be

visiting there in our travels and I am thinking

this may be a good place to look at for the

future as certainly DeBeers has a big interest in

keeping their workers healthy.  Lots of ideas and

possibilities are floating around in my head, of

course, and I am hoping to start getting somewhat

more focused soon.

Well, I better go and cook some turkey soup for

dinner!  Talk to you later.

Love,

Bonnie
