Subject:   Possible visit to the MOC, rather than a "stand‑by on the phone!"

Dear PFP Colleagues:

I had responded to a call from Dr. Juan, who was delighted to hear about my recurring trips to Mindanao, the next set up for Jan 15‑‑30, 2006.   After we had compared a number of mutual hopes and plans by phone, he had proposed an additional session with pictures and plans, and I will suggest that this might work well for you as well, in which we might meet and synchronize some future schedules.

I am going to Mindanao in January.  I will be operating in Edwards, among the Tboli in South Cotabato near Koronodal for the first week, and in Malaybalay at Bethel Baptist Hospital in Bukidnon Province for the second week, but will be returning to Manila on the 27th of January (see attached itinerary and agenda) in order to rendezvous with Juan and to check into the SAR vessel used for PFP projects in Palowan, to meet the Rotarian/newspaper publisher sponsor of the PFP chapter, and also to compare notes on missions to other parts of the islands under PFP before I leave for a lecture in San Francisco On February 1.

With all of these experiences past and future to be compared, I have packed up the albums of reports from Mindanao, Sudan and Eritrea, with the projections for Rwanda, and Juan suggested I come down to Norfolk and join in for the MOC meeting on December 19, rather than holding near the phone here for any consultation on the forthcoming plans.  If that works out with you, I could stay over (through Juan's kind invitation for the night of the 19th December) and we could go over intermediate and longer range plans.  Included among these are the stock of medical supplies I have and the container that goes regularly to the mission sites.

I look forward to meeting you and seeing the PFP HQ!

. Geelhoed,

We'd be happy to have you :-) attend.  I look forward to seeing you at the

Medical Operations Committee meeting on December 19 at 4:00 p.m. at the

headquarters for Physicians for Peace.  Susan

Dr. Geelhoed, I am very excited about having the opportunity to meet you in

person.  If your schedule works, would it be possible for your to come in

early Monday afternoon, say 2ish so you and I could have a conversation

about Africa and Millennium Villages.  The Medical Committee Meeting runs

from 4 until about 5:30 or 5:45.  OBTW, Haile Mezghebe sits on this

committee, but will be unable to participate in person because of surgery,

but he will be joining us by phone.

Afterwards, I'd like to invite you, Dr. Montero, Stephen and some others to

join me for dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Hope all is well with you and I look forward to seeing you.

Ron

PS, don't know if you've been to Norfolk, but from the Pentagon to Norfolk

is nearly four hours, for planning purposes.  There is considerable

construction east and south of Richmond and a tunnel that drops you into

Norfolk, which always has the potential for a slowdown.
