THE QUITE DIFFERENT RESPONSES TO THE WONDERS OF THE WILDS OF VIRUNGA VALLEY IN RWANDA

I got a reply from Susan who had responded to my note about a brief holiday hike into the Virunga.  In view of your comments on the elk hunt in the snowy Maroon Bells, I add her comments below:  Just what more praise could she sing to the virtues of the Virunga than she has just done?  (I have been so often to the Game parks of each Kenyan and South Africa that I could probably lead a good commercial tour in each, in the luxurious comfort of an A/C bus, but that should be done before or after the trip on the travelers own time and tab.)

Her view of the hazards is what makes me want to get there specifically!

Dr. Geelhoed, I would also like to build in some sort of "African

Adventure" at the end of the mission to Rwanda. However, the Virunga

area might not be the best. In the past Rev. Jupa has said that it was

too expensive. It costs about $250.00 per person, requires armed Army

escort and involves pretty heavy jungle hikes. If we go through Kenya or

South Africa we could visit those parks. Just a thought. Susan

Fantastic pictures.

I can only imagine the work in hiking to the hunt, butchering the elk and

packing the meat out on horses.

After only a few twin grandkids photos, you will see the elk hunt in the

first of two rolls in the golden glory of aspen, and then in the white out

of a snowstorm!
