THE INVITATION TO AND CELEBRATION OF THE
ERITREAN
Interested in going on a medical/surgical missions
trip?
Just curious to see what the experience involves?
Wondering "where the heck is
Or maybe you just wouldn't mind hearing about all of
the above while
you take advantage of the opportunity for free food...
In any case, we'd love to have you attend our
Presentation on our trip to
12 Noon
Thursday, October 6th
Ross Hall 201
I had the awesome opportunity to join this trip
(along with Dr. Geelhoed, an incredible and world-renowned surgeon here @ GW,
and Amy Fiedler, a very cool first year).
And... GW is actually in the process of
establishing an affiliation with the the Asmara University
Medical School, so if you're interested in joining a trek like this in the
future, this is a great way to find out about it! It'll just be a really laid back PowerPoint
presentation with some background about our trip in general and photos of the
country, the people, and some of the interesting surgical cases we had the
opportunity to see. FYI: we have the room until 1:30 and could
theoretically stay there that long, but feel free to come for as long as you
can/would like to.
Hope to see you there!
And remember... TWO down, ONE to go! YAY, we're almost through our
first set of exams as second years!

Dear Haile:
As soon as I had returned from Africa, I called the
niece of Dr. Herugo, and had arranged, as I had
promised her back in Asmara, to forward some books and journals as well as some
surgical supplies with their coming visit in later fall. The number she had given me and the name was
Miss Berhe Hirut at 703/
931-8605. I also had a relative of HimHim the chief scrub tech named Dr. Tadese
Mebrahtu, apparently at
When I called the number for Dr. Herugo's
niece, I spoke with a man who had poor understanding and use of English, but he
said he would relay my message and phone number to her niece. But he seemed quite frightened by my call and
anxious as though he did not comprehend my purpose in calling, and I have never
heard a response to my call. Perhaps an
explanation in Tigrina would be reassuring.
I had been hoping to transfer the large volume of
recent journals and a couple of books as well as the supplies to any who might
be coming to the Thursday program and would be able to carry them to

Medicine Programs and by the students are attached.
Cheers!
