- Transformations: in Iowa and Ashburn VA, with the start of the final
pre-Comps semester getting the surprise
impasse of two “Incs” in the last two semester’s
courses for too much originality—as I launch the Mindanao Mission
- Allan Mellicor’s
Mindanao agenda.
- Called to practice over the Pacific, as I am the only
responding doctor for a case which might have aborted the flight in
mid-Pacific, with a decline of the thank you gift—a magnum of champagne for my
efforts—we make the connection through Manila to GenSan meeting the rest of the team for our trip to Tiboli, stopping for our fruit
orgy and the getting to work immediately in the “Goiterama”
- The surgical work load of cases at Tiboli TECH and the
climax celebration of my birthday in the farewell ceremony followed by birthday
cake and ube ice cream as we pack up to leave TECH
for a road trip via Davao and Taglum City and
interval weekend activities before starting work at BBH Malaybalay, Bukidnon.
- The
Mt.
Kitanglad climb in rain and clouds through ht
rainforest and overnight rained in reading
Rwanda
, before the slippery
descent, to rejoin our lost student who had tried to climb but returned ill to
BBH.
- Launch the week of surgical work at BBH, Malaybalay,
Bukidnon,
Philippines
with my four protégés in
Bethel’s hospital
setting now that they had started operating with me in the somewhat more
primitive environment of TECH in
South Cotobato,
climaxing in the grand MMI/BBH celebration evening.
- Departure from Malaybalay and transit over
Atugan
Bridge and viewing waterfalls and canyons to Cagayan
de Oro for Marco Resort wrap up of our MMI Group
prior to flight to
Manila.
- Manila layover as tourist drive down
Bataan
Peninsula
to arrive at fishing village Cap Gaun for outrigger
canoe ride to
Corregidor and tour of the infamous fortress of WW II
historic site at tumultuous global events around the era of my birth, also
celebrated on this trip.
- From
the Manila base at
Shalom
Center, I go early to Ninoy Aquino International to see off the Canadians and
Allen Mellicor awaiting John Sutter’s arrival and
planning the possible future events with Juan Montero and George Garcia at
Asian
Hospital
for hopes of Palowan visit by SAR ship.
- The
departure day from
Philippines
after a visit to George Garcia in his
Asian
Hospital and a tour with Dr. “Jun” Garcia including a stop at Frontier Mission and a horse drawn carriage tour of the historic “Intramuros” of Manila before the PAL 104 flight from MNL to
SFO.
