It is not just Derwood, but DC in general bursts into flower in the spring. The famous cherry blossoms, which you have heard of since they are a pink cloud over the Tidal Basin and around the Jefferson memorial. But, the forsythia, and daffodils, tulips and other floral trees such as the dogwood, azaleas, rhododendrons make a spectacular display as well, and, fortunately. staggered out over the spring season.
One of the nicest surprises for my own purposes as I run along in the spring, usually concentrating on putting on long miles in preparation for a spring marathon, is to break through the roadside diesel fumes and automobile exhaust to encounter a heavy and sweet scent on the air---honeysuckle! After many of the flowers have come and gone, the fragrance lingers on!
