  7. Again awash in the tropical birdsong of dawn in the lush garden of the royal TARAGARH palace, we begin a second full clinic day in our medical camp after a full second clinic day in the school rooms we have overtaken as the displaced students sing and pose for us, i make a solo stroll through the countryside from the government guest house toward the sound of the chanting from the tibetan BIR monastery, and find myself included in the ceremonies of the clapping salute of buddhis debate, as the “only european outsider” in the temple—thereby missing the meditation sessuion with them, but meting a foursome who come to talk with me about LEOPARD HUNT. The third day of clinic in the school is preceded by a run through the birdsong and a contemplative moment of waiting in rose gardens before and after the full medical camp nonparticipants are bored, absorbing huge amounts of special attention and resources, while students are fascinated with the panoply of ordinary things in differential diagnoses: hernias, pilonidal cysts, congnital defects, abscesses, tb, arthritis, and the exotic: a rachitic rosary, potts disease, multiple chondroma syndrome, baker’s cyst, and i admire a holy man’s sacred trout, the “tcv” (“tibetan children’s village”) and “dhamvantri”, lord of physicians.
