SYNTHESIZING CUMBERALND ISLAND PLANS WITH THE HOLIDAY TRAVELS AND DERWOOD WALK-THROUGH

I have been working on when and how I can get to and from Cumberland in a busy time with a lot of things happening in close proximity to the dates.  But, you know, there is nothing as important as being on Cumberland when the morning of the hog hunt dawns!

As you see form the note attached, I will have to fly down since I am getting Virginia to fly in early morning Jan 8, for the "walk through" of the renovated Derwood, and then getting back to the DCA to fly in late to JAX.  Later, I will try to reserve the Greyfield launch as a ferry from Fernandino Beach, and will show Virginia around the island and Nancy's Fancy.  She will have to return on Sunday, so I am hoping to arrange the Greyfield ferry to carry her back, perhaps leaving a rental car at the Greyfield dock to take her back to JAX.

Monday morning is the hunt.  Because I will be there ahead on the weekend, I may not have the time and liberty to make my usual grocery run--there is a Wal-mart at Fernandino Beach--for all the foodstock that we need as a gang, although I can make a light "first run" particularly if I leave a rental car at the Greyfield dock.

I will be calling Liz Mc Comus to arrange the cleaning of Nancy's Fancy and the Ford Ranger to be at the dock for my pickup but then I will coordinate with you and figure when to swing by and pick you up.

I have heard that not all the people whose names are listed above are planning to make it, but I have certainly reserved the place and a permit for those in advance.  You will have the Greyfield numbers for the MV Ferguson along with the attachment enclosed, and you already know how to reach me.

For return with both me and the heavy stuff I may have brought down by truck so that I can fly in light, I would like to join whomever is coming back directly.  I know that Dale Kramer, Christian Elwell and Craig Schaefer are driving back to Maryland, but that Bill Webster will be driving down but probably continuing on to Alabama.  I will offer to join in as an accessory driver on the return which will cut in half the driving time but also will be packing fifteen photo albums coming down with Tom and Drew Griffioen!

I have been out in the bitter cold wind and watching for the deer that have been hunkered down during the windstorms. Two bucks have ventured out, and they are both in Pennsylvania feeding a family with nine kids.  I will try again for a wall-hanger, two of which I have glimpsed for brief periods, in the pre-dawn dark or at seven hundred yard range that would make "Kentucky Windage" of a few barn-widths.

For those of you who cannot wait for the year-end review letter, not yet prepared, the photo collage of some of the year's activities is attached in glorious living color!
