I VISIT WITH THE TWINS AND PLAY THEIR
GAMES
AS I DEPART FROM
I played
with kids today. They were up early and
tried to get us all into their games of railroad, Lego block building, jigsaw
puzzle doing, but Daddy had to go to work at the UTHSCSA which will be his full
time academic job as of January after he returned from the trip to Maryland
just after Christmas as I return as well from Chicago, Michigan and Iowa on
December 28. By that time we may both
be surprised to review the progress---possibly even the completion of—the
renovation project at Derwood and the twins would have their own playroom at
place to stay. It is designed as a
grandkids room in a furnished basement, but there seems to be NO chance that
Andrew William and Kacie Elizabeth would ever escape from their Mother’s wide
world of
We
took them to school at the Oak Hill Presbyterian Church’s day care school and
saw them again at the time of pickup at
They could have seen the elephants and zebras and antelope and giraffes we had seen at the zoo, if I could have down loaded them fast enough to keep their attention, but in the waiting time between pictures from Zambia earlier this year, they got more interested in a train video which is usually in the van to keep them occupied as they ride along.
I worked on my 2004 daybook as they took their nap, but when they got up, I got to play with them in their Lego blocks construction and in their train play They did very well together and also had a standby solution to most problems “Grandpa do it!” Judy hid out on the computer hearing their interaction saying they did better with me than when she would be there since they would vie with each other to get her favor. I had them take all their plastic animals and bring them over to Max who lay patiently as the accumulated animal farm assembled. I remember when Max was a pup and as quite excitable, but he has mellowed quite a bit so he was very patient with the kids. Especially Jordon is “Grandpa’s Boy” for several reasons—Judy’s grandmother also visiting says he looks just like me and relates well for that reason as well as his favorite trick of pulling on my beard and laughing. Devin also salutes his Grandpa and shouts out a cheery hello to him, but is almost always preoccupied with some project he is building or making or carrying on with trains and tractors They both play well together, and may need a little help in the sharing department as things go very well when each has a distinctive but duplicated toy. In the alternately sharing of a single item, it takes a little getting used to.
When
it was pointed out to
It was a good visit at just the right time and a good thing that I could make it over a weekend, since that way we could do some excursions like the run that Michael and I made and the air show and zoo visit. The visit was overdue and it was most enjoyable to see the progress of these two little guys who share the name, and who have a lot of other genes that are apparently also at work that seem quite similar. They are smarter than the average two year old (not many of them would count backwards) and are over talented for their undersize. They are very cuddly and could easily be kept at an infant stage for a long time because of how cute they are, but they are on track for maturing experiences, at home and at school and with a few playmates—which they can add to their already rather fulfilling play between themselves. It is good to see the close brother s at work!
