TENTATIVE PLANS FOR A SCENIC ROUTE TO DERWOOD

FOR THE COHORT SPRING POST-COMPS PARTY.

WITH A CHESAPEAKE THEME

Thanks, Elizabeth!

I will append the simple directions for those with their own or rental vehicles, but we may also go in convoy after the five o'clock Friday end of class on May 5.

It should take under an hour for the thirty miles even in the Beltway/270  getaway traffic of a late Spring weekend.  It might even be a chance for applicant guests to meet faculty and students in recruitment of Cohort 18+ to have them observe a class and then talk with veterans of the "Trust in the Process."

There is also a way to get to or from Derwood MD using public transport, since the Washington Flyer from Dulles goes to West Falls Church Metro connecting at Metro Center to the Red Line that ends in Shady Grove station a short walk away--and within a few minutes drive of the phone number appended.

For any "thrill seekers" who wish to ask the Loudon County indigenes who might be driving and who could be up for a real adventure at a spectacular time of year in full azalea and rhododendron bloom, I might recommend an even more fun alternative to creeping in 495/270 traffic, "adventure travel" up Rte. 7 toward Leesburg connecting with Rte 28 East.  As a Cohort (rather than a full regiment) we could cross the Potomac (as Gen. Jubal T. Early did in invading the North from the capital of the South, enroute to Antietam and, eventually, Gettysburg--spotted from the MD Sugarloaf Mountain lookouts) aboard White's Ferry-- shorter in distance,  but more scenic even if longer in time, and during that time on the car deck you can re-live Civil War history and capture a few more stories enroute!

We can join with the faculty, significant others and TA's, each awaiting the latest news flash--even if a number of our creative writing pieces from last Friday's sessions in the computer lab of Building  #1 are in their third review, preventing an early release of the good news, that--like the orals, everyone who took the writtens also passed the second "qualifying " hurdle.  I suspect that the time and place would be a good one for that announcement!

Looking forward to it along with you!

Cheers!

Hi all,

On behalf of Glenn, I want to remind everyone that he has graciously

offered to have an end of year party at his home in May. Thus far our

schedule is free Friday evening so it is a good time to get together.

Glenn is going to have it catered so please email me (since he his

always on the road I will collect the info for him) if you are NOT

going to attend. As long as we know about ten days ahead that should

work. Glenn will send out info regarding the time and directions again

closer to the actual date.

Great seeing everyone and I know that we will all enjoy a much needed

less stressful month. Safe Travel.

Elizabeth

You won't believe what just happened!  (see attached.)

I have lots of stories about the "pilot study" and will attach a couple of them with the next email to you.

Yes, I had planned on having a Chesapeake Party with as many bushels as a vehicle will hold.  I called two caterers on the Eastern Shore and they told me I was too far from them for delivery.  I went to Cameron's Seafood, only a few blocks from me, and they said they would be happy to put together lots of party platters and a few bushels for me--crabs only $156 per bushel!

I am especially keen on getting you out her to have a look at the woods and what I hope to do to keep it free of ICC and other pollutants.  I was also keen on getting the scenic route from class to party over Rte 7 to 28 across White's Ferry.

Why don't you come and bunk in?

The next notes are for the JHL class, (below) and then I will bombard you with the full treatment of the reply to the woman with the "instrument!"

Cheers

I just stopped over at Cameron's Seafood, and was thinking of getting a "Chesapeake Theme" for our party after I had called a couple of Eastern Shore caterers and they are too far out to deliver.  So, I thought I might be able to get a few "party platters" as well as a few bushels of crabs and various seafood entrees, and we could do it ourselves without the strolling black ties in the more informal setting of the azaleas, the decks and the Great Room.

I still think it might be a good idea to take the Rte 7/28 White's Ferry historic Route across--but I will not be home to set up being at class.  So, I will try to have most things ready for pickup as I leave--about the way we did at Maryanne's and that way we might even do the Wegmans' along with our class!

What do you think?
