PLANS TO INTEGRATE THE ALBERTA DUCK/GOOSE HUNT

WITH THE DOLORADO ELK HUNT IN OCTOBER

Wapiti Colleagues:

How does the certified CWD-free elk venison taste?  Have they given you a date by which the mounts will be finished?  We will have to compare trophies, and to that goal I have assigned this summer as a time when you should find a meeting to attend in Washington and come to bunk in with me and enjoy Derwood.  Someone should!

In the prior email I had just sent you as a CC, I am making arrangements to go duck and goose hunting with the fellow who had introduced me first to the contact I have made with the Rwanda areas where I will be leading the medical mission starting next week (sent by yesterday's CC to you.)  I thought you might be intrigued by his suggestion, and I may have taken the last spot in the Lodge for this year, but you would be the top priority in the coming years.

The reason for trying to integrate this into the flight I had intended to Denver to precede the October 8 or follow October 15 is to integrate it into the Wapiti Chase of '06.  This might allow the chance--we always talk about it but never quite get to do it--of an early arrival to set up camp ahead of the opening day.  For that reason I am trying to determine dates and coordination with the elk season, and will try to get Donald's availability if that might work out as well.  This will be after the whole process of my graduate Comps and in the middle of the dissertation phase, and after return form multiple missions like the Rwanda trek, so I am hoping to get advanced planning on it now.

Let me know if this plan can be integrated with yours and we will try to pull the two ends together!

Thanks!

Dear Hal:

I received both messages and am glad to respond affirmatively to both!

I have forwarded all the information to Pastor Jupa and we will have several film crews coming to cover the events of our clinics as well, since we are now involved in the renowned "Millennium Village Projects of Jeff Sachs, so we will have not only the medicine aspect of our mission, but also the humanitarian component in the addressing the root causes of poverty in the developing world.

On the other item for our October events, I attach a self-explanatory note below which I addressed to Gary at GooseMaster Lodge.   I understand that Joe Hitt will coordinate the flights, and I may make a separate arrangement if it is needed that I go on to Denver following the shoot as had been the case when you met me before on a similar flight.  I did not see anything about a license or stamps--which, of course, I get every year for MD and Federal permits, but which would not apply in Alberta.  Does the Lodge cover those costs?  In your lists of additional costs, I was trying to add them up toward a bottom line for the six day hunt--would it be correct to say that the total is less than 4K?

I will speak with you, and also go over with you some of the equipment for our fall excursion as we are packing up the materia medica for our Rwanda trip on March 1.  I am eager to see your pup in action!

I will speak with you shortly!

Glenn,

I am happy you are interested in the subject trip.  Some information on the

above trip is as follow:

This will be my 5th year I have attended.  There have been eight of us each

year, with most of us having attended three to five times.  The limits are 8

geese per day and 8 ducks per day.  Over a 3 day hunting period, each year

our group of eight people has averaged a minimum of 40 out of a possible 48

birds.  The North Alberta hunting areas appear to be the beginning of the

fly away.  It often appears to be the first time many of these birds have

experienced hunters.  The geese and ducks that reach the United States in

November - February have definitely experienced much more hunting pressures

than the birds in North Alberta.

Each on the past 5 years we have had 8 people in our group.  We generally

hunt in groups of 4 people with a professional guide.  Some times we have

had as many as 8 hunters with two guides in two sit down blinds or we each

are in our own coffin blind.

The lodge is nice, the food great, and their guides do a great job of

calling  waterfowl and keeping hunting conditions safe.  Check out Goose

Master web site at www.goosemaster.com .

Our costs this year are $1995 for 3 days and $3500 for 6 days.  At the

moment, five people appear to be interested in 3-days, and three of us,

including me, are electing to stay for the 6 days.  You indicated your

interest would be 6 days, also.

Some other costs:

3-day hunt, 4 day stay is $1995 plus VAT of 7% (139.55)

Cleaning is $3.00 for ducks and $5.00 for geese. (8 ducks per day = $24 + 8

Geese per day =$40 for a total of $64 per day)

Shells are about $13.00 per box

Tipping of the Guide is $40 to $50 per day. If the hunting party is 4 then

this would by $10 per hunter.

Glenn, a deposit of $2000 for 6-day hunt will be due in a few weeks.  With

reference to air travel, Joe Hitt of Ft Myers, FL and Reston, VA is the

group leader and primary organizer for the trip.  He is taking the

responsibility of booking all our flights, to minimize the problems we have

encounter over the years in arriving and departing Peace River, the last

airport which is two hour drive form the Goose Master Lodge.   I am copying

Joe on this email to alert him that I am working with you.  Once you state

you are 100% committed, I will probley turn you over to Joe to book your

flights unless you want to book you own.

I am also copying Gary Checknita, owner of Goose Master Lodge to make him

aware that we are going to book his last place in the lodge for our 3-day

and 6-day hunts.

Once you have read this email and checked out the  Goose Master Lodge web

site give me a call with you questions.  I will answer your questions or

give  you the people that can answer.
