JULY-A-1

OPENING THE NEW SERIES OF SUMMER IN DERWOOD ENVIRONS

  1. Index to Jun-A-2004 series in Summer Derwood environment.
  2. Spit and polish full-dress marines, the gathering of the DR/Haiti group and supplies for the medical mission of the JUL-B-series, and the Fourth of July, all rolled into interference on the large ELDP writing assignment for early July.
  3. Further flurries of work on the DR/Haiti trip, with all the students gathering at Derwood for packing party of meds and equipment, last minute shuffles in personnel and tickets, and a start on theses due in my absence.
  4. The inaugural visit of Michael and Judy and the twins to the new Derwood: the  twins name each of the animals in Game Room, and the new Natural History Museum “Hall of Mammals” and then “stalk” big bucks in the Derwood woods.
  5. In contrast to the visit with Michael, Judy and the twins, my best efforts at a visit with my new grandson is thwarted similarly to the last attempts to see the others throughout 2003 in an impasse of inconvenience.
  6. Some peoples’ problems make our own seem rather trivial, as I am asked to  write a letter of reference for my graduating protégé Sammy Gorman points out.
  7. The sign-out in pre-departure gatherings with the team, a sad farewell posted to France, with abundant twin pictures posted everywhere, as I pack out for DR/Haiti.
  8. Messages linking Paul Farmer and Peter Hotez for later collaboration in Cange and GWUMC.
